Tia Vang Appeals for Hit-and-Run Driver to Come Forward

A Sacramento, California cyclist who was seriously injured in a crash on April 27 says she wants justice.

Tia Vang was thrown off her bicycle by a truck as she rode along Elkhorn Boulevard with other cyclists. The driver did not stop and the mother of two now has no one to hold responsible for her injuries and other losses.

If the driver is caught, she would be able to file a claim for compensation with support from a car accident lawyer.

As it stands, her medical bills are piling up and she’s going through a grueling rehabilitation process after spending weeks in hospital.

Vang underwent emergency surgery at UC Davis Medical Center after sustaining fractures to her ribs, spine, sternum, right hand, and right wrist. She is unable to walk, and she can’t stand on her own.

Vang said she hoped all her broken bones would heal over time while also pointing out that her helmet protected her from further injury and saved her life.

She wants the truck driver to come forward so she can get justice. Vang said it was unfair to go through all that she was going through because of someone else’s actions.

Her family is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Dashcam footage shows a light-colored truck driving away from the scene. The video has been handed over to the California Highway Patrol and the crash is under active investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for Vang’s mounting medical expenses.
