A 27-year-old woman from Oceanside lost her life on Thursday morning, August 13th, after a rear-end collision at an intersection in Indio, California. The Indio Police Department Spokesman, Ben Guitron, said that the victim, Viviana Lujano, drove the vehicle that caused the accident.
The car accident report disclosed that the woman traveled in a Honda sedan with her husband and their 17-month-old child as passengers. At about 7:45 a.m., she approached the intersection of Indio Boulevard and Van Buren Street.
At the same time, a street-sweeping vehicle stopped for a red light at the intersection. For reasons the police have not disclosed, Lujano struck the back of the second vehicle, and the impact caused the Honda to flip on its roof, ejecting the woman from the car.
The victim sustained extensive injuries, and medics rushed her to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs where she died less than an hour later. The collision led to the temporary closure of the roadway, until about noon. The occurrence remains under investigation.
A rear-end collision is one of the leading causes of deaths in California and the United States. Other types of accidents similar to this one are head-on collision and broadside collision. Factors contributing to either of the three are either caused by the negligence of drivers or events beyond their control.
Drivers can avoid the above by maintaining their lane and the speed limit of the roadway they are traveling on. Obeying traffic rules and regulations also helps and prevents adverse legal consequences.
