Man Killed in DUI Crash in Chicago

There were multiple injuries and at least one death reported in a Chicago crash that appears to have been caused by a drunk driver.

The crash occurred in the West Town neighborhood at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, when Yonatan Monrroy-Madrid, aged 19, ran a stop sign at Ashland Avenue and Hubbard Street.

Monrroy-Madrid’s vehicle, a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, then collided with a northbound 2004 Toyoya Camry that was driven by Philip Pieczynski. Pieczynski was killed at the scene, and his car was pushed off the street and into a nearby parking lot by the force of the collision.

Two passengers in Monrroy-Madrid’s vehicle, a 19-year-old female and a 23-year-old male, were also injured.

Prior to the incident, Monrroy-Madrid’s vehicle was seen speeding and driving erratically. When police arrived at the scene of the accident, he had alcohol on his breath and was slurring his speech.

Monrroy-Madrid was found to have a blood alcohol content more than three times the legal limit. He is being held at $300,000 bail, and is being charged with DUI, speeding, failing to stop at a stop sign, and driving without insurance.
