Authorities: Christian Cuoto, Devyn Crosby Killed In Berkley Wreck

A Friday night car wreck in Berkley claimed the lives of two teens and seriously injured a third, authorities reported Saturday.

Christian Cuoto, 19, and Devyn Crosby, 18, both of Berkley, died in the wreck, which occurred just after 6 p.m. on Sanford Street, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Another person, a 19-year-old Berkley man whom authorities did not identify publicly, reportedly suffered injuries in the crash.

Investigators said Cuoto was driving Friday evening when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. By the time emergency responders arrived on scene, the vehicle was engulfed by flames, authorities said.

An officer attempted to free the teens from the flaming wreckage, successfully pulling one of the young men away before the flames became too much to bear, officials said in a statement. The surviving 19-year-old reportedly is in stable condition.

Cuoto and Crosby were recent graduates of Somerset Berkley Regional High School. In an email to families, the school’s acting principal suggested the community grieve together.

“Anyone who has a candle, even if it is a picture of a candle, would you please put it in the front window of your home?” the official wrote. “This small gesture would show our students, staff and grieving families that we are all sending our love and support for those we have lost.”
