Christoph Chmielewski Killed In 2-Vehicle Wreck Near Dennis

Authorities said a motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on a state highway near Dennis.

Christoph Chmielewski, 38, of Dennis, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported just before 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the Dennis Police Department. No other injuries connected to the wreck were listed on car accident reports.

Police said they were called to the area near 140 Massachusetts 28 in West Dennis at 3:58 p.m. Sunday to investigate a report of a crash. Emergency responders found Chmielewski laying in the street near a wrecked motorcycle, according to car accident reports.

Emergency medical personnel from the Dennis Fire Department were called to the scene, but Chmielewski was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a hospital for treatment, a police department press release said.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, a pickup truck, remained on scene. The driver, whom authorities did not publicly identify, was uninjured in the wreck.

Car accident reports provide few details about what led to the crash or whether either driver is thought to have been at fault. It’s unclear whether factors like intoxication or speed are thought to have been involved, and no citations or charges have been announced by police.

The incident remains under investigation by the Dennis Police Department, the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Team and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
