Authorities have identified the Florida man killed Saturday night in a fiery wreck on an interstate near Seekonk.

Michael Keefe, 60, of Sarasota, Fla., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 195, according to the Massachusetts State Police. No other vehicles were involved an no additional injuries were listed in car accident reports.

Troopers said Keefe was driving east on Interstate 195 at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle. Car accident reports state Keefe’s vehicle left the roadway and entered the median, where it ultimately crashed into a tree.

Keefe was ejected from his vehicle, which caught fire, according to authorities. Emergency medical personnel determined Keefe had died as a result of his injuries before he could be transported from the scene for treatment.

In a press release, troopers wrote that Keefe lost control of his vehicle “for reasons still under investigation.” Car accident reports released so far do not say whether factors like speed, inattentive driving or intoxication are thought to have contributed to the incident.

The interstate was closed for more than two hours while emergency personnel worked at the scene. The incident is under investigation by the state police, the agency’s Crime Scene Services Section, the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, the Seekonk police, fire and EMS departments and the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
