Transit police have arrested a Boston man accused of injuring an 84-year-old man Saturday evening in an unprovoked attack at an MBTA station.
Mozamel Abdul-Rahman, 32, was arrested this week on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on an elderly person, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority police announced Wednesday. Police said a second attacker, who hasn’t yet been identified, was involved.
Police said Abdul-Rahman approached the victim, whose name has not been released, at about 9 p.m. Saturday at an MBTA Park Street station. Abdul-Rahman and the other man allegedly knocked the victim down, kicked him, punched him and spit on him.
The victim sustained minor injuries, including small lacerations and bruises, but refused medical treatment, according to authorities.
MBTA police on Monday released images of Abdul-Rahman in an attempt to get the public’s help in identifying him. He was arrested not long after.
Police have not revealed any theories about the motives behind the assault. In an initial post seeking additional information about the incident, police described the “disturbing” attack as unprovoked.
Authorities have not released images of the other suspected attacker and it’s unclear to what extent each man was involved in the alleged assault.
