Nicole Marie Corbeil, 20 of Phoenix, Arizona died on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in a Las Vegas motorcycle accident.
At 8:11 a.m., Corbeil was driving her 2018 Harley Davidson FXLR southbound on Decatur Boulevard in the farthest left travel lane. As she legally entered the intersection at W. Diablo Drive near Russell Road, a 1999 Mazda B3000 pickup truck collided with the motorcycle. The truck was turning left from eastbound Diablo Drive onto Decatur Boulevard. The driver failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign. The Harley ran into the front of the Mazda truck as a result.
Corbeil died at the scene from blunt-force trauma due to the collision.
This Las Vegas motorcycle accident is the first 2020 traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department jurisdiction.
According to the Las Vegas Harley Davidson’s Facebook page, Corbeil was an employee there, and was passionate about motorcycles.
Failure to yield accidents are among the top causes of motorcycle accidents. These occur when drivers of other vehicles make unsafe left turns in front of oncoming motorcycles. This is because drivers often underestimate the time it will take for the motorcycle to enter the intersection.
The LVMPD Collision Investigation Section is still investigating the accident.
