David Vetkov Killed In Motorcycle Crash Near Nooksack

Authorities have released the name of the teen who was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle wreck Saturday afternoon near Nooksack.

David P. Vetkov, 19, of Maple Falls, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to car accident reports from the Washington State Patrol. No other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were reported by investigators.

Troopers said Vetkov was driving west on South Pass Road near Goodwin Road at about 4 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle. The motorcycle veered off the roadway and crashed into a mailbox, a pole and a fence, according to car accident reports.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical responders.

Vetkov reportedly was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The incident remains under investigation, though authorities have said they don’t suspect intoxicants, such as drugs or alcohol, were contributing factors in the incident.

Loved ones set up a Facebook page as a tribute to Vetkov shortly after his death. Several people posted memories of Vetkov expressing his passions for the stage and basketball.

“I am going to miss all those Christmas play practice(s), where you were the star,” one person wrote. I am going to miss you laughing uncontrollably when you messed up a line. The ability you had to act was incredible, and you did it with your whole heart.”

Another person commented on Vetkov’s “bright smile and hilarious hijinks,” as well as his “beautiful mind and a heart of service.” Another said he was “always in a good mood and always cared about making people happy.”
