Jesse Johnson Detained For Speeding on Highway and Crashing Vehicle in Downtown Spokane

Accident reports released by the Spokane Police confirmed the arrest of a man who crashed his vehicle into Fox Theatre while speeding through a highway in downtown Spokane, Washington. The incident leading to the arrest played out on the morning of Tuesday, May 19.

Officers responded to several calls from witnesses reporting a vehicle crashing into Fox Theatre near Sprague Avenue and Monroe Street. Callers said the driver abandoned the car and was attempting to flee the scene.

Testimonies from eyewitnesses confirmed the suspect, Jesse Johnson, 32, was driving erratically at speeds between 60 and 70 mph. Witnesses said he ran several red lights while in transit, before smashing into a solar-powered garbage can, and coming to rest when he struck the theatre. The damaged garbage can would cost an estimated sum of $7,000 to repair.

Officers suspected possible impairment and called in a drug recognition expert to evaluate the motorist after apprehending him. The results are still pending. Deputies transported Johnson to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No one else suffered injuries in the traffic wreck, as per the accident reports.

Following his release, they detained him on several suspicions related to DUI and crashing vehicles. In addition, police discovered the suspect had an outstanding Governor’s warrant issued in Washington in relation to burglary and gold theft in Maricopa County, California.

Both incidents remain under investigation by the appropriate authorities.
