Authorities said two people were injured Monday evening when a man driving a stolen vehicle crashed near Rexburg while fleeing from police.
Stephen Freeman, 34, of New York, and his passenger were transported to Madison Memorial Hospital fore treatment of injuries after the wreck, according to a release from the Idaho State Police. The extent of their injuries was not made clear in the press release.
Troopers from the state agency at about 7 p.m. Monday began pursuing a stolen vehicle operated by Freeman. Freeman and his passenger, who was not identified in the release, reportedly were traveling west on U.S. 20 near mile marker 339 near Rexburg.
Freeman then took exit 337, where he crashed the stolen Honda Fit, police said. Neither Freeman nor his passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck and both were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Freeman later was medically cleared and then booked into the Madison County Jail, the release stated. He was charged with eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, providing falls information to law enforcement and driving with a suspended license.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. It is unclear whether Freeman has retained a car accident attorney.
