Chino Hills Crash Injures Two Student Pedestrians and Driver

A fiery two-car crash in Chino Hills has injured a driver as well as two students who were in front of Ruben S. Ayala High School. The crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The high school, part of the Chino Valley Unified School District, has about 2,600 students.

The 32-year-old driver has been identified as Travis Weible of Riverside. Weible, suffering from burn injuries, was transported to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

One of the cars appeared to have struck a pole and caught fire. Aerial video from news helicopters showed the charred wreckage of a Honda sedan remained next to the curb, and a power pole appeared to have been struck and toppled into the roadway.

One of the vehicles slammed into two students who were on foot, fire officials said. A male student who was on foot sustained major injuries and was airlifted from the scene. Another pedestrian, a female student, sustained minor injuries and was released to her parents, the Fire District said.

No other details were immediately available, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
