A press release by the Danville Police Department,    Illinois, on Thursday, August 13th, revealed the details of a two-vehicle collision that killed Sean T. Dye, 29. Police officials said that the accident happened on Sunday, August 9th.

Officers arrived at the crash site around 5 p.m. and found that a car and a motorcycle collided at the intersection of Williams and Fairweight streets. The car accident report showed that the victim was on the floor with multiple severe injuries.

The DPD said that their preliminary investigation uncovered that Dye rode a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle when he crashed into a 2013 Buick sedan trying to cross the intersection. Medics took the victim to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Emergency room where he succumbed to his wounds.

The 81-year-old woman driving the Buick and one passenger were uninjured. The police said that they worked with the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office while conducting their preliminary investigation. Officers interviewed several witnesses and obtained video footage of the accident.

From the two, they learned that the Buick was southbound on Fairweight and approached the stop sign at Williams. It remained at the stop sign and yielded to several vehicles going east and west on Williams. The sedan driver then tried to cross the intersection, with two speeding motorcycles heading towards her.

Dye’s motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the Buick, bringing the two vehicles to a standstill. The DPD said they are still looking for witnesses to the occurrence. Once they complete their investigation, they will provide a report to the Vermilion County State Attorney’s Office for a final review.

The police did not provide any additional information. Witnesses can contact the DPD on the listed line or the Vermilion County Crime Stoppers.
