Female Pedestrian Hit by Bus, Killed

A female pedestrian was killed Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a bus on the West Valley College campus in Saratoga, California.

The pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Xiaolan Luo of San Jose, was hit by the bus at around 5:15 p.m., after leaving work at the Saratoga Retirement Center. Luo was crossing the road on Athletics Way when the bus, turning left from Fruitvale Avenue, hit her.

Luo died from her injuries shortly afterwards at the nearby Valley Medical Center. No one else was injured in the incident, and the bus driver was cooperative with investigators.

It is still undetermined whether or not Luo was in the crosswalk at the time she was hit, but rainy and windy weather conditions at the time of the accident might have made it difficult for the bus driver to see her. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.

The bus was a charter vehicle, owned by Storer Coachways and contracted by Google for the use of its employees, who are allowed to park in the West Valley parking lots. Both Storer Coachways and West Valley College have expressed their condolences over the incident.
