Two Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a collision on westbound Interstate 80 at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday night, while pursuing a fleeing vehicle.
The pursuit had begun in North Richmond approximately twenty minutes earlier, when Eddie Nute, 22, who has a $1 million arrest warrant for auto burglary and conspiracy with a gang enhancement, refused to pull over and instead led police on a wild chase down Interstate 180.
In the process, Nute’s vehicle, a red Honda Acura, collided with multiple vehicles, including a minivan and a Mercedes. After the second collision, which occurred in Berkeley near the Bay Bridge west of Powell Street, the Mercedes spun out of control and collided with the patrol car pursuing Nute.
Neither sheriff’s deputy was injured, although both were briefly hospitalized following the incident.
Nute’s vehicle was later found, but the driver could not be located. Nute remains at large. He is described as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and approximately 160 pounds, and those who may know his whereabouts can call the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office at (925) 646 2441.
Following the crash, two lanes were closed on Interstate 80 for an hour, causing major traffic delays in the area.
