BOLINGBROOK, IL — Two truck drivers were involved in an accident near Bolingbrook early Tuesday morning on Interstate 55 that took the life of a 60-year-old Wisconsin man driving one of the trucks.
Heading south on I-55, 36-year-old Samer Hraish of Wheaton was just past Route 53, when he was struck from behind by another big-rig vehicle. This second truck was being driven by 60-year-old William Hansen of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. According to reports by the Daily Herald, Hansen was killed in the crash.
According to state police, the accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Several other vehicles slid out of control on highway ice, themselves colliding with the wrecked trucks.
The Wisconsin man died at the scene, according to the Will County coroner’s office. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.
The interstate was blocked for several hours while investigators finished their work and crews cleaned up the wreckage. Rerouted traffic caused congestion to nearby surface streets resulting in heavy delays for commuters. All lanes of traffic on the Interstate were reopened and operational again by 9 a.m.
Trucking Accidents
Inclement weather, icy roads and heavy vehicles are the ingredients of many accidents we see at our firm. While weather can play a significant role in causing an accident, at the end of the day, our courts will be blind to the weather in attributing fault. If you have been the victim of an accident in poor weather, you can certainly make a compensation claim for your accident just like if the weather was not a factor.
