Four people died in a crash following a high speed police chase involving deputies from Liberty County, Georgia on January 11, 2020. Three of the victims were in a car that was fleeing from police. The fourth victim, Jimmy Altamirano, 43, was an innocent victim. Altamirano was a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Stewart.
On Saturday afternoon, Liberty County police deputies attempted to stop a white Nissan Sentra traveling east near State Route 196, also known as Leroy Coffer Highway. Police believed the vehicle was one that had been reported stolen in Savannah.
The Nissan driver refused to stop, and a high-speed police chase ensued. The Nissan driver crossed the median and continued driving east against the traffic on the westbound side of the highway. Deputies continued to give chase on the eastbound side.
At about 2:05 p.m., the Nissan crashed head-on into Altamirano’s black Audi near Arcadia Drive in Midway. Altamirano died at the scene.
The Liberty County Coroner’s Office identified the three passengers from the Nissan, who also died at the scene. The driver was Jonathan Kennedy, 19, from Savannah. The passengers were Thomas Gordon, Jr., 32, from Savannah, and Alie Dossey, 40, from Midway.
