The Sterling Community is mourning after the death of a 17-year-old boy following a traffic incident on Sunday.
Amarion Green was traveling eastbound on Dixon lane at about 7:10 am on Sunday, February 9, 2020. He was just past Holland Creek when the accident happened.
A 17-year-old driver is dead after a crash in Whiteside County Sunday.
According to officials, on February 9, 2020 around 7:15 a.m. Whiteside County deputies were dispatched to Dixon Ave, at Holland Creek , Rock Falls for a vehicle submerged in the Howland Creek.
Upon arrival deputies determined a passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on Dixon Ave, when the vehicle struck a utility pole, and flew into the Holland Creek.
What the police could piece together was that Green lost control of his car and left the road. Then, his car hit a pole and the car flipped over. It landed in Holland Creek.
The car was submerged in the creek when the authorities arrived at the scene. They did their best to retrieve both his car and his body from the water. Sadly, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. The autopsy was scheduled for Monday, February 10. However, no information has been released as of yet.
The investigation of the crash is still ongoing. There has been no indication that alcohol or drugs had anything to do with the crash.
Thankfully, there were no other passengers in the car with Green at the time the car rolled into the creek. And, since it was so early on a Sunday morning, there weren’t many other cars on the road. Nobody but Green was injured in the crash.
