Thad Thompson, the father of the 12-year-old boy who was injured in a hit-and-run accident in Deerfield went to the media outlets on Monday asking that the person responsible for their son’s accident to come forward.
His plea to the driver that was responsible for the hit-and-run must come forward. They need help from the insurance for medical bills that are quickly accumulating after the accident.
Thompson went on to express that the family can forgive the driver for their moment of panic after the accident and to prove it to the driver they are willing to put up $10,000 for them to use toward their defense, but only if they will come forward and turn themselves in.
The accident originally occurred on February 7.
Chase Thompson, who is a non-verbal autistic child had slipped away from the house which is situated near the intersection of Deerfield Road and Beverly Place.
It was when he ran into Deerfield Road that he was struck by the unidentified driver.
The incident prior to the accident happened so quickly that the boy ran from the house without shoes or a coat.
Chase was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville but was later transferred for specialized care at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
The current injuries reported to the young boy include several injuries to his face, broken bones, and bruised lungs. The family is still calling his status “touch and go” at the moment.
The vehicle that the police are searching for is believed to be a darker-colored Ford Escape. The year is possibly 2013 to 2016 with the SEL or Titanium trim package.
It is possible that this vehicle will have damage from the accident. Areas of interest on the vehicle are the passenger side headlight, the fender, and the grill.
The family is urging anyone with information to contact the Deerfield Police Department.
