Mazin Israel Among the Two Dead in I-696 Crash

Mazin Israel, 39, has been identified as one of the two victims of the I-696 crash that took place on early Tuesday morning. Israel’s family and friends gathered at his residence in Oak Park to grieve his loss.

The tragic accident took place in the eastbound lanes of the I-696. Israel and another driver got into a minor crash which resulted in no injuries to either. The crash happened between the Coolidge Highway and Woodward Avenue exits. Following the minor crash, both drivers got out of their cars.

It was then that both were hit by the oncoming traffic. The police are still trying to ascertain whether one or two other vehicles were involved in this secondary crash. The second crash proved fatal for both Israel and the other driver who were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The authorities were notified of the crash soon after it occurred and reached the scene at around 5:30 a.m. The identity of the second driver who died in the crash remains unknown, although the police have shared that the driver was aged 61 and belonged to Westland. I-696 was briefly shut down in the wake of the crash.

The drivers involved in the second crash also sustained injuries. One of the drivers was released after treatment while the condition of the second driver remains unknown. The police have not brought any charges against any of the parties involved. Police is also currently in the process of speaking to the witnesses in order to full reconstruct the crash.
