Authorities are investigating the workplace death of a Fairview man Lyle Troyer, 59. Troyer died in a suspected accident at a business location in Comins Township on Thursday, February 13.

According to the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified of the accident early in the morning which took place at around 9 a.m. Troyer had apparently been injured in an incident at a sawmill or lumberyard that involved a debarking machine.

Once the deputies reached the scene of the accident, their help was sought in freeing Troyer from the debarking machine. However, Troyer has sustained serious injuries in the incident. When the EMS reached the location and tried to revive Troyer, they were not successful. Troyer died of his injuries at the spot.

The Sheriff’s Office is still looking into the incident, investigating the exact particulars and facts. It is not clear exactly how the incident took place and whether it was caused by factors like faulty equipment or a lack of suitable workplace safety measures. For this reason, authorities have not confirmed an official cause of death as of yet.
