A press release that was issued February 19, has identified a man who was the victim of a pedestrian accident that occurred at midnight on February 16, as 65-year-old Randy Billaber.
The preliminary investigation conducted by police indicated that the accident occurred near the intersection of Kietzke Lane and Galletti Way in Reno. According to the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner, it is possible that Billaber was homeless.
When emergency crews arrived at the accident, the vehicle that hit Billaber had rolled over him and trapped him beneath it. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries related to the accident.
Billaber was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by emergency personnel.
The medical examiner related that Billaber’s official cause of death was blunt force trauma from the accident.
The Reno Police Department does believe that impairment was a factor in the accident.
The driver of the vehicle has not been charged as of the time of the press release, but it is possible that they will be facing charges for the death of the pedestrian.
A DUI that causes death in Nevada is a category B felony. This carries a prison term of 2 to 20 years in a Nevada State Prison. There could be fines that range from $2000 to $5000. Possible license revocation or suspension for a three year time period.
The police are asking that any witnesses with any information regarding the accident to come forward.
