Two teenagers were injured in a single-vehicle crash in Jasper County that took place on February 22, Saturday. The accident happened on the Jasper County Road later on Saturday evening at around 10:00 p.m.

According to the details shared by the Illinois State Police, Hailey M. Cook, 18, of Mattoon and Peyton M. Wills, 18, of Newton were the only people involved in the crash. Hailey M. Cook was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Being from Mattoon, Hailey was unfamiliar with the 800E area of the Jasper County Road. A few miles north of Lis, Hailey could not properly judge a curve in the road close to the 1600N intersection. As a result, as she approached the curve, she failed to follow the road. The car instead ran off the roadway and eventually ended up in the west ditch.

As the authorities were notified of the accident, help and rescue personnel reached the site. Both teenagers were provided basic aid and then transported to a hospital for a more thorough medical treatment. Cook was taken to the HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Her fellow passenger Wills was transported via ambulance to the Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Both teens apparently sustained non-serious injuries in the crash. The exact nature of injuries is not known at this time. The State Police has cited Cook for improper lane usage, although the police stopped short of charging her for any other negligence given the lack of any serious harm done.
