Six-Year-Old Layla Williford-Mason Dies in South Roxana Crash

In a tragic car accident that took place on Sunday, February 23, a six-year-old girl lost her life. At least one other person involved in the accident was also injured.

According to the details shared by the authorities, the incident took place when a car collided with a pick-up truck. Pavel Chernyavskiy, 29, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck when it struck a Nissan Altima driven by Frank J. Williford, 28. The incident took place at the Broadway Avenue and Illinois 111 intersection.

Both drivers had passengers in their vehicles at the time of the collision. The passenger in Chernyavskiy was Alex E. Turner, 21. Williford was accompanied by his six-year-old daughter Layla Williford-Mason who was sitting in the backseat of the car. As Williford was taking a turn into the eastbound lane of the road, his car was struck up by Chernyavskiy’s pick-up truck.

The collision took place at around 6 p.m. Layla Williford-Mason sustained critical injuries and died at the scene of accident. Turner also sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

It is unclear at this point whether Chernyavskiy or Williford were injured in the crash, or if they were injured, what was the extent of their injuries. The South Roxana Police Department continues to investigate the incident. The police have not issued a statement so far as to whose negligence caused the incident. More details may be forthcoming soon once the authorities conclude their investigation into the incident.
