Sunday Crash Leads to Death of Placida Hernandez-Ramirez

Fifty-seven-year-old Placida Hernandez-Ramirez died following two early morning accidents on Sunday.

Reports indicate she was heading northbound on U.S. Highway 75 when she slowed down near the Coit Road exit because of an accident in the right lane.

A man who was driving behind her didn’t slow down and he rear-ended Hernandez-Ramirez’s vehicle.

The impact sent the woman’s car across some of the highway’s lanes and caused it to rest in the left and middle lanes.

As Hernandez-Ramirez exchanged information with the unnamed male driver, a woman driving in the left lane struck the left passenger side of Hernandez-Ramirez’s car. That was where Hernandez-Ramirez was standing.

It is not known whether the victim’s vehicle was drivable after the first accident. However, motorists in Texas should remove their vehicles from the flow of traffic after a crash, if possible.

This is intended to keep traffic moving and lower the risk of secondary accidents like this one which turned out to be fatal.

Motorists don’t have to wait until the police arrive to move their vehicles.

It is not known if the police were called to the first accident. However, when they arrived, they found Hernandez-Ramirez dead from the injuries she sustained in the second crash.

The woman who was driving the car that struck Placida Hernandez-Ramirez was taken to Medical City Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

The man who was involved in the initial crash stayed at the scene and officers determined that he was under the influence of an intoxicant and had been driving while impaired.

He was arrested and charged.

It is not clear if the woman who hit Hernandez-Ramirez will face charges.
