On Tuesday, February 25th, in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, the California Highway Patrol got called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash. The accident occurred at the Highway 4 transition ramp on the north Interstate 680 at about 8:47 a.m.

When the CHP got to the scene, they discovered an Audi A6 sitting on the side of the road after crashing into a concrete rail. The car was badly wrecked, with the occupants a 58-year-old man, identified as Lon Lucky, and his 1-year-old daughter.

The CHP has not been able to put together how the accident happened, or where the man and his child were heading to. Witnesses of the crash helped the two before the paramedics arrived, and got the toddler out of the vehicle.

The baby girl suffered multiple cuts and bruises and got taken to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Oakland, for treatment. Lucky got taken to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where his minor injuries got treated.

Police investigations led to the conclusion that the man was under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or both while driving. The CHP arrested him, and he got booked at the Martinez Detention Center.

Lucky is facing a DUI charge and child endangerment causing severe bodily harm. The latter is a felony offense under California law, and if convicted, the toddler’s father faces up to six years in state prison.

The courts could also issue a fine of not less than $10 000. The CHP is still investigating the accident, and their findings would determine if Lucky would face more charges.
