Judith McCausey Nye Dies in Ionia County Crash

In one of the many traffic accidents that took place across Michigan this week due to adverse weather conditions, a woman died in Ionia County. The accident took place on Wednesday, February 26.

According to the details shared by Ionia County Sheriff deputies, the crash happened on the E. David Highway, somewhere between the 40 Acre Town Road and the Kelsey Highway. A 42-year-old woman was driving a Chrysler Minivan when she lost control of the vehicle due to snowy road conditions. The vehicle was headed eastbound at the time. As the driver lost control of it, the vehicle skid across the center line and collided with an Oldsmobile Aurora in the oncoming traffic lane.

The Aurora had two occupants at the time of the collision. These included a 64-year-old male driver whose identity is not known at this time. The other passenger was Judith McCausey Nye, 64, of Portland who was sitting in the other front seat.

The sheer impact of the collision significantly damaged both vehicles involved. The driver of the minivan and both occupants of Aurora sustained serious injuries. They had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Berlin-Orange Fire Department and then transported to the Sparrow Ionia Hospital.

Judith McCausey Nye died briefly after arriving at the hospital. The other drivers remain under treatment at the hospital. The severity and degree of their injuries is not clear at this time. The Michigan State Police and the deputies with the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
