In an accident that took place on Thursday, February 27, a trooper with the Michigan State Police sustained injuries. The accident happened in the Kalamazoo County close to the village of Southcraft.
According to the details shared by the authorities, Officer Scott Silkworth of the State Police was on the site of another crash when his vehicle was hit by a pickup truck. The other accident had taken place on the U.S. 131 at some distance from the St. Joseph. Silkworth was policing the accident site in the northbound lane. It was at around 9:30 a.m. that the pickup truck crossed the center line and hit Silkworth’s vehicle.
The truck which hit his vehicle was originally traveling in the southbound lane of the road. The driver of the truck apparently lost control of the vehicle so that the truck veered across the center line and came into the northbound lane. It was then that the truck hit his vehicle.
Silkworth was about to exit his vehicle at the time of the crash. As he saw the truck coming towards his vehicle, he closed the door of the vehicle and stayed inside. This helped him avoid a direct hit from the truck and prevent serious injuries.
In the wake of the crash, Silkworth was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He was fortunate to avoid any serious injuries in the crash. The driver of the truck which had lost control remained safe and didn’t sustain any injuries.
