A man is dead following an accident on Eastex Freeway in Beaumont, Texas early Saturday morning.

He has been identified as 55-year-old John Garcia-Paredez, a resident of Beaumont.

The two-car crash occurred at 5:08 a.m. in the 3800 block near Home Depot, according to Officer Cody Guedry with the Beaumont Police.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found John Garcia-Paredez dead. He was one of the drivers.

Guedry said the victim was in control of a green Nissan Ultima when he rear-ended a tan GMC Yukon. The driver of that vehicle is said to be cooperating with police officers.

No information has been released as to whether he suffered any injuries. No arrests have been made.

However, Guedry noted that traffic investigators are still looking into the fatal collision.

Rear-end collisions are often thought of as mere fender-benders. However, they can result in serious injuries. Most often, the rear driver is at fault but this isn’t always the case.

If the driver in the first vehicle was driving without properly functioning brake lights or tail lights, the crash could potentially be their fault. Also, if a driver switches lanes abruptly while the vehicle next to them accelerates, the driver in front could also be liable.

Rear-end accidents can also be caused by speeding, distracted driving, tailgating, impaired driving, and distracted driving. In some cases, driver fatigue is also responsible. In addition, if a motorist fails to adapt their driving style to suit adverse weather conditions, they could cause a crash.
