A 20-year-old man was killed after he fell out of and then was run over by the same vehicle Monday in Calumet City, authorities said Tuesday.
Tarone Conway, of Calumet City, died from injuries sustained in the incident, which occurred at about 3 p.m. Monday in the 1000 block of Wentworth Avenue, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
Conway fell out of a moving vehicle that then ran him over, according to the medical examiner’s office. It’s unclear from law enforcement reports who was operating the vehicle at the time of the incident, but authorities have deemed his death to be the result of an accident.
Calumet City police, the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team and the Illinois State Crime Scene Service responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Local media outlets reported that the incident garnered significant attention from onlookers and neighbors and diverted traffic. Conway was run over near the Wentworth Woods Forest Preserve.
Conway’s body reportedly lay in the street for several hours Monday afternoon while authorities from several agencies worked at the scene.
