Authorities said excessive speed likely was a factor in a single-vehicle crash Saturday in Wood County that claimed the life of a man from Wills Point.
Taylor E. Faris, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene of the early morning crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
Troopers said Faris was driving west on Wood County 2330 a few miles south of Mineola at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Faris reportedly was traveling too fast for conditions and he lost control of his vehicle on a curve.
Faris’ vehicle sped off the road and crashed into a tree, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities reported.
Additional details about the crash weren’t released immediately. While authorities said Faris was driving at an excessive speed when his vehicle left the roadway, they did not say whether other factors might have contributed to the incident.
Faris’ mother posted a tribute to her son on Facebook on Saturday afternoon. She also posted several photos of Faris apparently competing in rodeo events.
“Our hearts are so broken right now,” Faris’ mother wrote. “We don’t have words to express what we are feeling. We lost a kindhearted and wonderful soul and our youngest son.”
