Report: Carbon Monoxide Caused the Deaths of Teens Christopher Turpeinen and Dylan Roberts

The toxicology reports relating to the deaths of two teens back in February have now revealed that both died from carbon monoxide poisoning. This was confirmed by the Baraga County Sheriff Rick Johnson on Thursday, March 19.

According to the details shared by the Baraga County Sheriff’s Department, Christopher Turpeinen, 17, of Pelkie and Dylan Roberts, 17, of L’Anse both died of carbon monoxide poisoning in an incident on February 17. A third teen, Hunter Pelon of Baraga, became unconscious because of the carbon monoxide exposure and was airlifted to a Green Bay hospital. She eventually woke from coma and her condition has since improved.

A representative with the Sheriff’s department explained the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. According to the representative, the three friends had consumed alcohol, so they decided to park at a safe spot instead of driving under the influence. As the car was running, carbon monoxide somehow reached inside the vehicle and gathered up, causing the fatal poisoning of the two teen boys.

Police were notified about it when they received reports of a vehicle with a possibly drunk driver. When responding to these reports, the police found the vehicle with the dead bodies of the two boys and an unconscious Pelon while the vehicle was still running.

Pelon was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors initially gave up all hopes on her. However, she eventually woke up from her coma and has since come a long way towards full recovery.
