Hit-and-Run Accident Leads to Death of Alfredo Delgaillo


The man who died in a hit-and-run crash in Dallas, Texas on March 14 has been identified by police. He is 28-year-old Alfredo Delgaillo.

Preliminary reports showed that Delgaillo was riding a scooter in the 2600 block of Matilda Street around 8 p.m. when the crash occurred.

He was transporting a female passenger on the scooter. She sustained minor injuries that were not life-threatening. Her name was not released.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the scooter left the scene without stopping to offer assistance.

Police are looking for the driver who they have disclosed is 44-year-old Enrique Ortiz. They say he is five feet, six inches tall and weighs a hundred and sixty pounds. He has dark, close-cropped hair.

Officers have asked anyone with information about his location to contact the Dallas Police Department.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to Enrique Ortiz’ arrest and indictment. 

Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense in Texas. It can be either a felony or a misdemeanor depending on how much damage was caused and how serious the resulting injuries were.

As long as the police can track down the driver, they can be charged. Fleeing the scene of a crash that results in serious injury or death is a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.

Leaving the scene of a crash that causes a non-serious injury is punishable by up to one year in prison. The driver may also have to pay fines.
