Ricardo Ramirez Seriously Injured In Lufkin Wreck

A Texas teenager suffered serious injuries in a rollover crash Tuesday morning near Lufkin, according to authorities.

Ricardo V. Ramirez, 17, of Lufkin, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition after the wreck early Tuesday on Raguet Street, authorities reported. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Joel Escoto, 16, also of Lufkin, at the time of the single-vehicle crash.

No citations or charges were announced after the incident, so it’s unclear whether Escoto needs to seek the services of a car injury lawyer.

According to the Lufkin Police Department, Escoto picked Ramirez up early Tuesday morning. Escoto was driving north on Raguet Street at about 2:30 am. Tuesday when he lost control of his vehicle.

The SUV went off the road and overturned, striking a fence and a metal pole. The pole reportedly pierced the vehicle, impaling Ramirez’ arm, police reported.

Escoto reportedly could not find his phone to call for help, so he ran to back to Ramirez’ home to seek assistance. Before he left, Escoto pulled the pole from Ramirez’ arm, according to authorities.

First responders discovered Ramirez lying on the ground near the SUV. An officer used a tourniquet on the wound in an effort to stem the bleeding before Ramirez was taken to an area hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

The crash is under investigation by the Lufkin Police Department. The results of the inquiry likely will determine whether Escoto and his family should hire a car injury lawyer.
