Authorities have identified the teenager who died on Sunday night following a multi-vehicle collision that left three others hurt on Harbor 110 Freeway in Los Angeles, California. The California Highway Patrol, on Tuesday, April 7, named the victim as Jonathan Navarro, 16, of North Hollywood, as stated in the accident reports.
The tragic crash took place around 9 pm on Sunday, April 5. According to the CHP, four cars were involved in the traffic wreck, including one conveying Navarro.
Investigators determined that the mishap began when a Nissan Quest, driven by a 59-year-old man, made an unsafe turn towards #5 lane while traveling on #2 lane of the southbound freeway.
As a result, the vehicle skidded out of control and slammed into a right concrete wall, disrupting the lane 5 traffic in the process, which led to a series of subsequent crashes.
First, a Ford Edge, operated by an 18-year-old boy, collided with a Hyundai, which in turn caused further traffic disruptions. No fewer than four vehicles were wrecked.
Jonathan Navarro was riding as a passenger in the Ford, alongside the driver and an 18-year-old female. While the 16-year-old died instantly from fatal injuries sustained, the other two suffered only minor injuries and were treated on the scene.
The Nissan driver also sustained minor injuries. The accident reports did not disclose whether drugs and alcohol contributed to the fatal wreck. The crash is still under investigation by the CHP to ascertain the cause and liability.
