Crash Causes Death of Hampton Police Chief Terry Engle


Hampton Police Chief Terry Engle lost his life in a single-vehicle crash that took place on April 11, Saturday. The incident took place in the evening and was reported to the authorities around 6:45 p.m as per preliminary accident reports.

According to the details shared by the Illinois State Police, the crash occurred on Illinois Route 84. Engle was traveling northbound on the road at the 180th Street North when he seems to have lost control of the vehicle. For reasons not yet known to the authorities, the vehicle left the roadway and then collided with a tree.

The 57-year-old Hampton Police Chief sustained critical injuries in the single-vehicle crash. He died from his injuries and his death was confirmed on Sunday morning by the Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson.

ISP is still investigating the crash. Engle was responding to a 911 call when the unfortunate incident took place. Investigations are currently focusing on trying to understand exactly how the incident occurred. ISP has not ruled out medical condition as a potential cause of incident so far. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the accident.

Albany Police Department and Silvis Fire Department also posted heartfelt condolences on their social media pages. The Rock Falls Police Department also shared a Facebook post regretting the loss of Terry Engel.
