Pedestrian Accident on I-129 Kills Omar Juma

A man was killed in a pedestrian accident that took place in the Oak Lawn area on April 11, Saturday. The incident took place at night and was reported to the authorities at around 8:15 p.m. as per preliminary accident reports.

According to the details shared by the Illinois State Police, the fatal incident occurred when a person ran onto the Interstate 294. As he did so, he was hit by an SUV and fatally injured.

The victim was identified as Omar Juma, 29, of Chicago, Illinois. Juma ran onto the I-294 close to the mile marker 18. It is not clear exactly why Juma ran onto the roadway and whether he was simply trying to cross the road.

As Juma ran onto the I-294, a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox collided into him. The driver of the Equinox was identified by ISP as a male driver, aged 26, from California. However, ISP stopped short of sharing the name of the driver.

It is not clear whether Juma died of his injuries at the scene of the crash or was taken to a hospital where he later died. Details are still forthcoming from the state troopers.

For now, ISP is focused on investigating exactly what caused Juma to run onto the expressway. Preliminary investigations show that the driver of the Equinox was not guilty of any negligence in the crash. So far, the state police have not charged the driver with any crime and he hasn’t received any citations. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and may reveal more details in subsequent accident reports once investigations conclude.
