Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Anza Claims the Life of Albert Farrell

A 79-year-old man died in a traffic accident after his motorcycle crashed on the highway and threw him down a cliff in the Anza area of California. The incident took place on Wednesday, April 15, as stated in the accident reports supplied by the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

According to the reports, the elderly cyclist was riding a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle along State Route 371, just west of 74 Highway when the crash happened.

A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, Matt Napier said that the rider suddenly made an unsafe turn, causing the motorcycle to drift off the right shoulder of the roadway. The crash threw him off the bike, 30 feet into a cliff.

Officers were alerted about the traffic wreck at precisely 3:05 pm, after which a fire rescue team was deployed to the location.

The Riverside County Fire Department operatives were able to extricate the crash victim from the cliff, but he was already dead at the time of his retrieval. Authorities identified the deceased victim as Albert Farrell, 79, of Palm Springs.

Farrell was reportedly wearing a helmet when he crashed. However, the CHP said the headgear was not of the standard approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The accident reports confirmed that the CHP closed down State Route 371 in both directions for hours while the necessary on-site investigations were conducted.

Further investigations are underway to determine why Farrell negotiated the unsafe turn.
