Zachary Suarez, Matthew Schultz Injured in West Branch Single-Vehicle Crash

Two people were injured in a solo vehicle crash on Schultz Road in West Branch Township, Michigan. The crash happened on Sunday, April 19, as revealed in the accident reports.

According to the Michigan State Police, the incident was recorded at about 6:10 pm and involved an off-road vehicle conveying two people near Schultz Road.

Witness accounts asserted that the ORV, driven by Zachary Suarez, 20, of Channing, was traveling through an off-road area of the freeway channel, at a high rate of speed. Riding alongside him was a single passenger identified as Matthew Schultz, a 25-year-old Norway resident.

While in transit, the operator of the ORV lost control of the vehicle as it made its way over a berm. The vehicle then flipped over, as a result, ejecting its two unrestrained occupants before coming to rest with its wheels faced up.

Both Zachary Suarez and Matthew Schulz suffered major injuries in the crash and were transported to Dickinson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their injuries were listed as non-life-threatening.

Michigan State Patrol troopers said the driver was not suspected of having been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. However, speed remains a suspected factor as eyewitness accounts, and on-site investigations confirmed that the ORV was speeding. No other information regarding the wreck was given in the accident reports.
