A 49-year-old man died last weekend in a solo-vehicle crash after his vehicle smashed into a bridge support in Mesquite, Texas. The fatal occurrence took place on Saturday, April 25, as confirmed in the accident reports supplied by the Mesquite Police Department.
Police received a call at about 11:40 pm, reporting a solo crash on US Highway 80 that left at least one person unresponsive.
As stated in the reports, the fatal victim was driving a Ford pickup through the east travel lanes of the Highway. For reasons yet to be established, the truck driver veered off the roadway and drove into a bridge support directly under Town East Boulevard.
The impact of the collision caused serious damages to the Ford while fatally injuring its driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Authorities have since identified the deceased motorist as Rickey Stance, a 49-year-old Forney Resident. Stance was reportedly the only occupant of the wrecked pickup at the time of the crash. No other vehicle was involved.
It was not immediately made clear whether drugs and alcohol contributed to the traffic wreck that resulted in Stance’s death.
Police are investigating the mishap to determine what caused the motorist to drive off the highway.
Possible causes include overspeeding, impairment by drugs/alcohol, distracted driving, a faulty vehicle, or an underlying medical condition, all of which would be considered during the investigations.
The findings would be included in the accident reports once made available.
