A single vehicle crash in Live Oak County, Texas, on Monday, April 27th, left a 49-year-old man, August Leo Herrley, dead. Based on accident reports, the crash occurred at around 5:50 p.m. on IH-37, which is approximately four miles north of Three Rivers.

Reports from DPS Troopers revealed that a 2021 Freight liner semi-trailer was traveling northbound on I-37. Suddenly, the driver of the truck veered off the road, for unknown reasons. The truck then went down an embankment and struck the pavement of the access road below.

August Leo Herrley, who was a Rockport resident, was behind the wheels of the truck and the first responders flew him to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment. Despite the best efforts of doctors, the 49-year-old died from the injuries he sustained.

The DPS Troopers are continuing with their investigations into the cause of the fatal crash.

It is on record that most accidents that occur are preventable and only happen due to drivers getting distracted while driving, and their disobedience to traffic rules and regulations. Motorists must ensure that they are in the right frame of mind before they embark on a journey.

Distractions occur in the form of calls, texts, heated conversations, and result in preventable injuries, or death. Accident reports also show that faulty or unresponsive vehicles are the cause of many accidents.

Thus, it is paramount for drivers to check the working condition of their cars before hitting the road. Road patrol officers say that when drivers do this, it prevents vehicle mishaps, accidents, and also saves lives.
