One person was arrested on Wednesday, April 29, following a police chase that ended in a solo vehicle crash that, thankfully, was not fatal. According to accident reports obtained from the Wichita County authorities, the incident took place in the Wichita Falls area of Texas.
The encounter kicked off when a motorcycle officer monitoring traffic spotted a moving vehicle that was determined by the radar gun to be at a speed of 81 miles per hour. The permissible speed limit on the Central Freeway where the incident took place was reportedly 60 miles per hour.
This prompted the officer to go after the motorist, signaling for her to pull over. The driver of the northbound car failed to oblige the deputy, and a chase ensued.
The motorist, identified as Ariel Isom, joined the southbound lanes of the Central Freeway via the Loop 11 exit, driving in and out of traffic and boycotting other vehicles in the process.
The officer then decided to stop the pursuit, seeing as Isom had no intentions of yielding, and the lives of other commuters were at stake.
The motorist continued her spree, surpassing a speed of 100 miles an hour until she smashed into a curb on the 1000 block of Central freeway, and her vehicle flipped over severally.
The retreating officer was drawn to the accident scene by a large cloud of smoke emanating from the vehicle. Upon closer look, he discovered that the accident victim was, in fact, the fleeing motorist.
The accident reports affirmed that the deputy rescued Isom from the wreck unscathed, and took her into custody on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle.
She was booked into the Wichita County Jail with a bond set at $2500 and has now been released.
