The Midland County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the death of a man who was involved in a two-vehicle crash earlier this week in Jasper Township, Michigan. The accident victim, who initially sustained severe injuries following the crash, was pronounced dead on Wednesday, April 29. A car accident lawyer may be needed to get involved in the case.
The crash that injured the victim happened on Monday, April 27, at the intersection of West Kent Road and South Magruder Road. Officers arrived at the location shortly after 9:19 am, on reports from passersby who witnessed the incident.
Investigators determined that the victim, identified as 23-year-old Thomas Heinzelmann, was traveling through the north traffic lanes of South Magruder Road in a 2003 Grand Cherokee.
Upon approaching the intersection, the motorist failed to observe the stop sign on the traffic light, entering the intersection out of turn.
That was when he collided with a 2016 Kenworth dump truck plying the west travel lanes of West Kent Road. The impact of the collision caused the driver side airbag of the Cherokee to be deployed.
Thomas Heinzelmann, who was not restrained by a seatbelt at the time, suffered critical injuries and was flown by Flight Care to Hurley Medical Center, Flint.
The operator of the dump truck also sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland, where he died two days later. Toxicology reports would determine whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the fatal collision.
A car accident lawyer can conduct an independent probe to gather additional evidence which may unveil new pointers in the case.
