Bexar County deputies are appealing to the public for help in finding a hit-and-run driver who left a San Antonio man dead three weeks ago.
According to accident reports, the victim was 26-year-old Antonio Marquez.
He died when he was struck by a car along Loop 1604, south of I-10, in East Bexar County on April 16. The crash took place around 11:51 a.m. and the driver did not stop.
Deputies believe Marquez, who was a pedestrian, was hit by a 2015 maroon Toyota Avalon. The vehicle likely has front-end damage and it’s missing a passenger-side mirror.
Anyone who has information that could help the investigators is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
Up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect.
When the driver is found Marquez’s family may be able to bring a wrongful death claim.
In Texas, only spouses, parents, and children can seek such damages. The estate of the deceased person can also bring a survival action to recover certain losses.
Texas doesn’t allow siblings, cousins, or grandparents to seek compensation for the death of a loved one.
To bring a successful claim against the at-fault party, survivors need to work with a top accident lawyer.
Accident reports indicate that around 11 percent of all crashes are hit-and-runs. Every year, there are more than 1,200 hit-and-run fatalities in the country. They account for just over 4 percent of all fatalities.
