Quanzell Butcher Identified as Fatal Victim of Gilroy Traffic Wreck

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who died in a solo crash earlier this week in Gilroy, California. In updated accident reports released on Wednesday, May 6, authorities named the deceased as Quanzell Butcher, a 25-year-old resident of San Jose.

The reports assert that the motorist died on Monday, May 4, after his vehicle left the road and crashed into an overpass at Buena Vista Avenue. Passersby called in the crash at about 10:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was the driver of an early model Lexus traveling through the north traffic lanes of Highway 101. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drove off the freeway and skidded along a grassy embankment, coming to rest only after it struck an overpass.

The impact caused the Lexus to burst into flames. Butcher, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle when it crashed, suffered fatal injuries in the tragic collision. Paramedics pronounced the motorist dead at the scene.

The accident reports failed to establish whether impairment by drugs or alcohol contributed to the fatal collision. An investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the traffic wreck.

Investigators would consider possible causative factors like intoxication, overspeeding, distracted driving, mechanical failure, or an underlying medical condition, all of which are leading causes of traffic fatalities in California.

Further findings would be included in the accident reports upon the conclusion of investigations.
