The services of a drunk driving attorney would come in handy following a tragic traffic crash that left at least two people injured in Jacksonville, Illinois. Police said the crash resulted from a suspected DUI motorist who got arrested on Monday, May 11, soon after the incident.
Authorities released in a report, that the accident involved two vehicles, and left a suspected drunk driver, and a juvenile hospitalised with injuries. It happened at about 3:43 p.m. on West Morton Avenue, police said.
Investigators gathered that the suspect, identified as Mercedes Murray, a 29-year-old woman resident in 722 N. Clay Avenue, was driving east on Morton. The vehicle was driving directly behind a second car driven by Deborah L. Green, 54, of Roodhouse. The latter’s vehicle pulled up at an interchange on Westgate Ave. in compliance with the stop signal on the traffic light.
Murray failed to stop her vehicle at the intersection, causing her to rear-end the waiting car. A six-year-old passenger in Green’s car suffered injuries in the collision, while Green went unscathed. Murray also sustained injuries. Medics transported the two injured people to Passavant Area hospital for treatment. The reports described their wounds as non-life-threatening.
Police said the offending motorist showed signs of impairment. After her release from the health facility, officers took Murray into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. They also issued her a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Anyone involved in a DUI-related traffic collision can contact a drunk driving attorney for representation.
