A pedestrian turned up dead after an out-of-control vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and fatally struck her in Victorville, California. As stated in accident reports released by the Victorville Police Department, the incident occurred on Wednesday night, May 13.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, the perpetrator, Alaina Swain, 38, of Apple Valley, abandoned her vehicle and fled the scene after striking the pedestrian. It happened at the Amigo Auto Care, at 15255 7th Street, just before 9:37 p.m.
Investigators determined that Swain was driving a tan-colored Chevy Tahoe, alongside two passengers. The vehicle was traveling northbound on 7th Street, when for unknown reasons, it swayed off the roadway, and crashed into the auto care building, striking a pedestrian on its path. The pedestrian was at the time standing on the sidewalk, directly in front of the property.
Responding officers found the Tahoe lodged inside the damaged building, and the victim seriously injured. Medics transported the injured person to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Meanwhile, the three occupants in the Tahoe fled before law enforcement arrived. A registration check on the vehicle led to the identification of the driver. Deputies located Alana at her Apple Valley home, with minor to moderate injuries. They also transported her to a hospital for treatment.
The identity and whereabouts of the two passengers in the car with Swain remains unknown. The accident reports described them as black males in their ‘20s.
The fatal occurrence remains under investigation.
