Michael Bowers, a 20-year-old man, died on Wednesday, May 13, following a car crash in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Accident reports revealed that the collision occurred after the vehicle the victim was riding in hit another car before crashing into a light pole.
The crash occurred at about 3:20 p.m. at Statz Street and Azure Avenue, west of Pecos Road. The Clark County Coroner’s office said that Bowers was from Los Angeles, California.
The spokeswoman for the North Las Vegas Police Department, Caitlyn Ebert, reported that the victim was a passenger in a Ford Mustang. The Mustang was driving at high speed when it hit a Toyota Tacoma at the intersection. Following the impact, the Ford veered into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a light pole on the side of the road.
The collision also caused Bowers’ ejection from the vehicle. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they pronounced him dead. Meanwhile, the drivers of the Ford and Toyota cars sustained non-life threatening injuries. Medics took them to a hospital where they received treatment.
After an initial investigation, detectives determined that the Mustang traveled at 60 to 80 mph on the road before the collision happened. This was more than twice the road’s speed limit of 25 mph. The police, however, do not believe that impairment was a factor in the crash.
Driving at speeds above the limits of a road is very dangerous and can lead to collisions, severe injuries, and death. Accident reports show that so many crashes occur when motorists drive at high speeds. Drivers must keep to speed limits and obey all traffic laws and regulations to prevent these accidents from happening.
