In one of the latest accident reports in Muskegon, Michigan, Duane Braden had a close shave with death in the backyard of his Laketon Avenue home. The incident happened on May 16th when he was working on the gas tank in a 1996 Chevy Trailblazer.
According to Braden’s account, he was replacing the old gas tank for a new one when the car jack lost its hold on the vehicle.
The car rolled back and pinned Braden on his back. His daughter and son-in-law dialed 911. Rob Douglas, a tow truck driver who works with 1st Class Towing, got the news over the dispatch and decided to help.
Douglas realized Braden was trapped underneath the vehicle, so he backed his tow truck back to him and hooked his back bumper with the tow vehicle’s wheel lift to lift it up to get it off of him.
By the time Douglas freed Braden from the vehicle, severe harm had been done. The victim arrived at the hospital with a broken collarbone, and multiple cuts on his ear, arms, and legs.
However, Braden’s injuries were treated and he was free to leave the hospital the following day. He reunited with Douglas and announced he was done fixing vehicles on his own. He advised others to use blocks when working on vehicles and have people around when working.
Looking back at the incident, Douglas considered Braden very lucky to be alive and in fairly good health.
Car accidents feature a lot in accident reports as they occur frequently. These accidents are sometimes due to a manufacturing defect. In situations like that, the victims deserve compensation from the manufacturing firm.
If you suspect an accident occurred due to a manufacturing defect, speak with a reliable attorney to know the next steps to take.
