Authorities are investigating the death of a construction worker who lost his life in a worksite accident, after a boom lift crushed him in Northwest Atlanta, Texas. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, May 19, as stated in the accident reports.
Officers responded to the 1300 block of Gun Club Road, on reports of a man trapped underneath a boom lift after it fell on him. The response crew discovered the worker unresponsive, with severe injuries at about 3 p.m.
Accounts from witnesses suggested the victim was operating the boom lift in the complex. For reasons yet to be established, the lift dislodged and appeared to hit the ground. On a closer look, they found that the construction worker was trapped under the wheel of the fallen lift.
When they extricated the man from the wreck, he was already dead. Atlanta Police authorities later identified the victim as 55-year-old Dexter Walters. They said an Xfinity company vehicle conveyed Walters to the site before the mishap. No additional detail about the incident is available in the accident reports at this time.
The cause of the tragic occurrence is under investigation by the Atlanta Police.
Construction workers and all other workers dealing with heavy equipment are at risk of encountering such accidents. These often result from an error or misstep from the worker, or negligence on the part of the employers.
Therefore, related companies need to adhere to all worksite health and safety regulations to minimize or curb the recurrence of work-related accidents, fatal or otherwise.
